The Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (Senckenberg Natural Research Society, SGN) is an association vested with legal capacity pursuant to Section 22 of the German Civil Code, which was bestowed with the rights of a corporate body by dint of a sovereign decree on August 17, 1867. According to Section 28 of the valid bylaws, the association is represented judicially and extrajudicially by two members of the board of directors as defined by Section 26 of the German Civil Code; one of these two members has to be the General Director or Deputy General Director.
